Aluminium
The structural concept of this chair was abstracted from structural packaging logics where sheet material is folded and locked into a 3 dimensional form using tabs and slotted connections. The material of choice was Aluminum sheets which are lightweight, easily workable and can be folded to gain rigidity through plastic deformation. A polyhedral shape formed the basis of the chair design with a primary and secondary leg. The development of the structural packaging inspired connection typology enabled freedom in the discretization of the unrolled polyhedral form to account for fabrication constraints. Control of tolerances and performance-aware assembly of connections were crucial aspects of the successful execution of the 1:1 scale prototype
